LINE 1

DIAGNOSIS AND REHABILITATIVE AND PREVENTIVE THERAPIES FOR CHANGES IN DENTAL TISSUE

This line of research comprises studies that evaluate biomechanical behavior, clinical and laboratory parameters involved in the different stages of remineralizing treatments, rehabilitative and preventive agents applied in dentistry.

Clinical and Laboratory Studies of Hard Dental Surfaces

Clinical and laboratory evaluation and performance of toothpastes, whitening gels, surface conditioning materials over enamel, dentine, cement, healthy or demineralized.

Clinical and laboratory behavior of preventive procedures, microinvasive and invasive methods in the treatment and control of carious tooth wear, non-carious and dental trauma

Evaluation of preventive and restorative materials, as well as clinical techniques, in the treatment and prevention of dental caries, non-carious lesions, dentin hypersensitivity and dental trauma.

LINE 2

PROPERTIES, TECHNIQUES AND PERFORMANCE OF MATERIALS IN DENTISTRY

This line of research aims to evaluate the physical properties, chemicals, mechanics, as well as the performance of clinical and laboratory procedures of the applied dental materials.

PROJECTS
Behavior and characterization of materials and direct and indirect restorative techniques

Protocol evaluation, techniques, equipment and parameters in the simulation and clinical application of dental materials for direct and indirect use as well as characterization of their physical properties, chemical and mechanical, as well as critical or risky situations. Quantitative and qualitative understanding of the reproducibility of direct and indirect restorative techniques

Evaluation of dental implants and prosthetic components in oral rehabilitation and their correlations with oral and general health conditions

Study of the biomechanics of osseointegrated implants, as well as stability, settlement passivity, stress distribution and adaptation of prosthetic components, through different types of connections and surface treatment. Torque maintenance assessment, fatigue survival, different materials, prosthetic structures and rehabilitation modalities involved in implant-supported prostheses and their correlations with oral and systemic health.

LINE 3

DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF ORAL DISEASES

This line of research aims to validate diagnostic methods and therapeutic modalities for different pathologies present in the oral cavity..

Periodontal maintenance therapy

Evaluates clinical parameters, microbial and immunological in clinical research participants included in a periodontal maintenance program after undergoing active periodontal therapy with prospective follow-up.

Mechanical and chemical treatment of periodontal diseases: impact on general health conditions

Study of the active and maintenance phases of mechanical treatments, isolated or combined with the use of conventional or single-stage chemical agents, performed to treat diseases that affect periodontal tissues. Such effects will be monitored and compared in specific populations based on clinical parameters., imaging, immunological and microbiological

Interrelationship between periodontal disease and systemic health

This project will evaluate the relationship between periodontal and systemic conditions, through clinical diagnosis, microbial, salivary and serological, and the impact of periodontal therapy on general health.

Control of microorganisms in dentistry

Study of the association of different therapies and dental protocols related to the frequency of microorganisms (bacteria, viruses and fungi) through molecular tools

LINE 1

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES IN HEALTHCARE

This line of research will evaluate the use of natural products, as well as the final destination of solid and liquid waste in environmental impact and health services, in addition to different atmospheric events related to human health.

PROJECTS
Natural products in the health sector

This project aims to experiment and evaluate natural products (ethnobotany and ethnopharmacology) in the indication, effectiveness, treatment and protocols related to human health.

Waste management and environmental sustainability

This project aims to present sustainability concepts to be applied in health service activities and also evaluate the environmental gains resulting from the use of products, materials and procedures to reduce energy consumption, water and waste.

Air pollution on health

This project aims to present the main climatic elements involved in the issue of pollution, such as winds, relative air humidity, precipitation, etc and how atmospheric systems (heat exchange, passage of Cold Fronts, etc) can change and influence these concentrations, impacting human health.

LINE 2

BIOLOGICAL APPROACH, CLINICAL AND MOLECULAR IN HEALTH-DISEASE CONDITIONS

This line of research based on biological parameters, physical or chemical aims to evaluate the influence of local and/or systemic factors on health-disease processes.

Air pollution on health

This project aims to present the main climatic elements involved in the issue of pollution, such as winds, relative air humidity, precipitation, etc and how atmospheric systems (heat exchange, passage of Cold Fronts, etc) can change and influence these concentrations, impacting human health.

Epigenetics and systemic diseases

This research project aims to address the basic concepts of epigenetic mechanisms and transcriptional control involving the inflammatory process in systemic diseases., with systemic arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity and chronic kidney disease

Approach to critically ill patients in intensive care

This research project aims to approach critically ill patients in Intensive Care, with regard to the most prevalent clinical conditions, diagnostic and therapeutic protocols, under the eyes of the multidisciplinary team.

LINE 3

EPIDEMIOLOGY AND CLINICAL IN HUMAN HEALTH

This line of research deals with health and disease processes in human communities by analyzing the occurrence and distribution of diseases, health-related conditions and events and their determinants. Quantifies risk factors, prevention and prognosis strategies for chronic diseases common to the Brazilian population. In addition, This line addresses statistical strategies for analyzing data from different types of epidemiological studies and is dedicated to systematic reviews and meta-analysis as a basis for adequate clinical practice

PROJECTS
Study designs in epidemiology

Designs and preparation of observational and interventional epidemiological studies differentiating the types of studies commonly used in clinical epidemiology. Characterize the advantages and disadvantages of retrospective studies, prospective and randomized controlled clinical trials

Assessment of the presence of microorganisms in aerosols generated in the dental environment

Development of a computational epidemiological study evaluating the presence of microorganisms generated in the dental environment after clinical treatment in individuals with a history of COVID-19.

Evidence-based systematic health review

Systematic reviews represent the highest level of scientific evidence. Therefore, within evidence-based healthcare, systematic reviews with or without meta-analysis act as the main tool to guide clinical decision making, answering questions about disease causality and the best therapeutic approach to take. In this project, systematic reviews of epidemiological studies and randomized clinical trials will be carried out within the health area..
